Wedding rings

The vow

With this ring, I thee wed as an outward symbol of my undying devotion. It’s not a mark of ownership; I’d rather own you in ways where it’s just us two.

Before God and all gathered here, I declare that I’ll love you as you love me. I’ll hold you down as long as you want me to. I’d climb Everest for you, but we both know the only workout I’ll gladly participate in is cardio.

This ring has no start or finish. It’s an endless loop that can only be destroyed by specialised tools. I know we’ll fight; your stubborn head and mine will lock horns, but it’s us against the world.

You hold my heart in your hands, and it will beat as long as you keep it safe. Yes, I love you, your smile, your eyes, and your arms. I could say more, but our parents might just pass out.

I’ll run into your arms until our forever is achieved. I’ll calm your fears and dry your tears. It’s the least I could do for the one who lights my world and ignites fires deep in my soul.

Dear darling, fires are as good as they are bad. With the right care, they provide warmth and light, but left unattended, they destroy. I’d hate to see us burn; we’ve come so far to let it all go up in flames.

I don’t promise to be cool, calm, or collected. You knew what you signed up for when you first asked me out. I’ll be your peace, maybe a sprinkle of madness, not enough to get you institutionalised just right so you can never guess what you’ll get at home.

I hope to grow old with you, hand in hand, wobbling about because we are locked in tight.

I’m not sure about the kids (small laugh). We’ll cross the bridge when we get there. I am certain that I want life experiences with you—the good, mostly the good, and I hope the bad will not drift us apart. I vow to honour you with all I am as you honour me with all you are.

Respect and trust don’t come easily to me, but you scaled that wall and climbed into my guarded chambers. I pray we keep that even when the energy dissipates, we can still be great friends with a love so deep.

Yes, with this ring I thee wed, an act of acceptance, till whenever and if ever we stay apart, with this ring I thee wed I’ll know I tried my best. With this ring, I thee wed, to our forever and hopefully always.

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen!
